10 Stories of Hope: Help Us Educate, Empower & Inspire Futures

We are a team of 13 passionate first-year interns from Nirma University who joined hands with the help of Elixir Foundation this summer, not just to learn, but to make a difference in society.

During our internship, we decided upon a field project that took us deep into the lives of underprivileged communities. As part of our field project, we visited the underprivileged neighborhoods of Narol and Naroda in Ahmedabad, where the Elixir Foundation has helped build a small yet resilient community. What we saw and experienced there was both heart-wrenching and deeply inspiring.

We saw children with eyes full of hope and dreams, but their clothes were worn and torn. It was touching to see such bright dreams amid so much struggle. Children who wanted to go to school but lacked the ability to pay school fees, lacked the basic means—uniforms, school bags, books, and shoes.

Over the course of several days, we interviewed dozens of children and families. We carefully assessed each family’s situation, financial condition, and the child’s willingness to learn.

We visited their homes—tiny spaces with leaking roofs, where one small room was shared by many, and a single parent who did their best to care for their children. We saw kitchens where their next meal was never certain. What we saw wasn’t just poverty, but a deeply moving gap between the children’s bright potential and the harsh reality they lived in.

We met mothers who worked tirelessly—cleaning houses, selling vegetables, doing odd jobs—just to feed their children once or twice a day. We saw the pain in their eyes when they spoke about school fees they couldn’t afford, books they couldn’t buy, or the uniform their child had outgrown but still wore every day.

Many of these mothers were not educated themselves. They wanted better for their children, but poverty had become a wall between their hope and their children’s future.

One mother told us, “I want my son to study. Another said to us, “I want my daughter to paint. She draws on the walls, but I can’t afford paper or colors for her.” Another told us, “I never went to school and I don’t want the same for my child, but I don’t know how to help him.”

Hearing this moved us deeply. These kids deserve more. They deserve a chance.

That’s when we decided—we won’t just walk away. We, interns committed to sponsor 10 children and help them with their needs and dreams. But we cannot do it alone.
